Who’s Actually Flying the “AI OS” Banner?
I did a survey, and the pattern is clear: the companies waving the “AI OS” flag aren’t mostly the big established product companies. They’re players who never had a unified entry point to begin with. They fall into roughly five camps.
1. Consultancies and IT service providers
McKinsey’s EcliptOS — one of its operating models has McKinsey running the platform end to end itself.
Globant launched Glob.AI OS on October 27, connecting more than 320 models across 25-plus vendors, delivered through expert-supervised “AI Pods,” priced on an outcomes basis.
In China, Digital China’s “Shenzhou Wenxue” (神州问学) positions itself as an enterprise-grade, AI-native process operating system, paired with domestic compute and a heavy emphasis on private and hybrid-cloud deployment.
2. Channel players
Pax8’s 8os. It’s built on top of Pax8’s existing commerce, identity, and billing infrastructure, and its real hook is procurement, billing, and customer relationships — aimed squarely at IT service providers and SMBs.
3. Business software (SaaS) vendors
These use “OS” to upgrade “an app” into “the unified entry point.” Kingdee’s “Lingji” (灵基) positions itself as the unified enterprise AI entry point, turning business data, management knowledge, and rules into governable, reusable enterprise context — deployable standalone and pluggable into an existing ERP.
4. Data and infrastructure vendors
Working up from the bottom of the stack, this is where the “OS” metaphor lines up most closely with what the word technically means. VAST Data’s AI OS unifies storage, databases, and compute into an agent-facing platform. Fourth Paradigm’s “Xianzhi AIOS” (先知 AIOS) builds on its enterprise AI platform for finance, retail, manufacturing, and similar industries.
5. Agent startups
No existing installed base, so they stake their claim with an “OS” narrative — think SimplAI, Lyzr, Ema. SimplAI calls itself an agentic AI OS, but that comparison article where it ranks itself first? SimplAI published it.
The companies actually selling this layer with real, visible revenue tend to talk about it more modestly — Microsoft Agent 365, ServiceNow’s AI Control Tower. Neither reaches for “OS.”
Turns out “OS” shows up most wherever there wasn’t a unified entry point to begin with.
